United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women (2014)
The ECP submitted evidence to the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, Rashida Manjoo during her two week investigative mission to the UK.
The submission detailed the experience of women in the ECP network and highlighted a number of urgent issues, including: the high level of rape and violence against sex workers and the lack of state protection; the risk of violence caused by the current prostitution laws forcing women to work in isolation; and the targeting of migrant sex workers as a result of fabricated or “speculative” trafficking figures.
The submission also addresses proposed government initiatives that would affect sex workers and levels of prostitution, including the denial of housing benefits to under 25’s, and the criminalisation of clients.
