Home Office Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy 2021-2024 call for evidence (2021)
The Home Office launched a VAWG Consultation which sought insights on a range of experiences of violence to feed into its 2020-2024 National Strategy. Prostitution wasn’t mentioned specifically, but many existing local authority VAWG strategies list prostitution as a form of violence against women on an equal par with rape, domestic abuse, stalking, harassment, etc.
ECP collaborated with National Ugly Mugs and Umbrella Lane on a survey to gather sex workers’ views on the nature and extent of violence they face, causes of harm and recommendations foe change to submit to the consultation.

In addition, ECP made a separate submission as an “expert by experience” organisation which provided further evidence on how criminalisation of sex workers or clients is dangerous and undermines safety. It emphasised the preventable harms inflicted on sex workers and women’s vulnerability to violence as a direct result of poverty, homelessness and debt.
