The Sun: Cash-strapped students turning to the sex industry to get through university
CASH-strapped students are turning to the sex industry to get through university, it has been claimed.
As tuition fees spiral, uninhibited undergrads are turning to kinky measures to foot the bills, with folk at the National Union of Students and the English Collective of Prostitutes noting the growing trend.
YourView users were quick to voice their opinions on the stiff uprise.
“These enterprising students will do well in the business world,” began Murray Snudge. “It’s all about seeing an opportunity and grabbing it.”
For blueroayls, if you’ve got it, flaunt it: “You are only young once and your body has a life expectancy so why not use it to fund your way out and to make a good start to when you get into employment? For girls it’s a lot easier making money this way where as for the guys, well, they just have to lump the costs.”
“Go to any bar in the States and the chances are you will meet someone working there to put themselves through college,” mroman pointed out. “It’s called enterprise something that is not understood in the UK.”
Palookaville even went as far as to suggest a spot of headhunting: “Next they will become Page 3 girls,”
The Real World
However, plenty reckoned that there was no need for the stone broke students to resort to selling their bodies.
“How about they stop getting drunk five nights a week and use all that money to pay for their eductation? Bloody students,” chipped in uni-goer Chrisfishy. “I’m tee-total and survive on £30ish a week. I haven’t actually been out this term and neither have my housemates. We’d rather pay rent and heating and stuff.”
According to jasjee “It is clearly an issue that students are living beyond their means, as the factor of tuition fees does not come into play until you’re employed. So move out of the costly living quarters, shop around for cheaper food and clothing and save every penny. And welcome to the real world.”
“Many students expect the free ride as well as being able to get drunk every night then wonder why they are low on money,” observed zhurhong.
For walchy07 the plunge to enter the sex industry is regrettable but necessary: “It is sad and unfortunate that my age group are faced with this recession and job prospects are pretty dire for graduates (I’ve got a 2.1 at a redbrick – very few jobs available), but unfortunately this is the situation we are in and tough decisions have to be made.”
