The Collective COSWAS in Taipei was formed by sex workers and supporters in Taiwan in 1998. They campaign to improve sex workers’ working conditions, against criminalisation and for law reform. In 2011, COSWAS played a leading role in a legal battle which won a court ruling that penalties against sex workers and clients were unconstitutional, and gave local authorities the power to allow sex work in certain zones. COSWAS is fighting for this to be implemented as a crucial step in their overall struggle for decriminalisation.
