A mother-of-two operated a brothel from her home in a quiet cul-de-sac employing around 20 middle-aged women, a court heard.
Claire Finch, 59, is alleged to have recruited other middle aged women to work from her village home.
A jury heard details of a website advert for “Claire’s massage”, which stated: “We aim to provide an impeccable service to replenish and relax. Full body tantric massage performed by beautiful and beguiling ladies who will cater for your every need.”
When police raided Miss Finch’s home in November 2008, she is said to have told them she only had middle aged ladies working with her because she didn’t want to employ young girls or foreign workers who may have been coerced.
She told police officers she would only perform massage with “happy endings” and left it to the others to offer the “extras” that she was not prepared to do.
Miss Finch, of Chalton Heights, Chalton, near Luton, Beds, pleaded not guilty to a single charge of keeping a brothel at her home between November 2004 and November 2008.
Samantha Cohen, prosecuting, told Luton Crown Court that police discovered a number of books at Miss Finch’s home on the morning of the raid which, apparently, showed the names of around 20 women it is alleged she had employed.
She said the defendant explained to the police officers who had arrived at her home on the morning of November 19 2008 that she was earning between £3,200 and £4,000 per month and had outgoings, including her mortgage, food and heating of £2,700.
She said for 15 years she had been offering massage with “happy endings.”
Outlining the prosecution’s case to the jury, Miss Cohen explained: “A brothel is a premises where sexual services are offered by more than one person.”
Miss Cohen went on: “Miss Finch, say the crown, works as a prostitute and has done so for many years.”
The jury was told she had advertised her massage parlour business in Bedfordshire local papers.
One ad read out in court said: “Relaxing body massage in village location Monday to Saturday.”
Another said: “Astrid’s massage, village location, Junction 12 of M1.”
On a website, a fee of £80 was quoted for a full massage and services included “Foot worship and a lot more.”
The home where Miss Finch is alleged to run her massage parlour from was set in a cul-de-sac in Chalton and boasted a swimming pool in the back garden.
Following the raid on her home, the defendant is alleged to have told officers that all her neighbours knew what she did and she claimed she didn’t think she was doing anything wrong.
She said she had four girls working at the house and all were self employed.
Miss Finch said she took 50 per cent of fees earnt by the other women if their customers had come to the parlour because of her own ad.
However, she said she would only take 40 per cent of fees earnt by the women if they had got customers through their own ads.
Police found the names of other women who had worked for Miss Finch, including Suzie, 48, Crystal, 32, Shantelle, 49, and Michelle, 44.
Miss Cohen said because Miss Finch herself was not prepared to offer full sex she needed other women at her massage parlour who were.
The trial continues.
