About:
Women of Colour in the Global Women’s Strike, The English Collective of Prostitutes and Queer Strike all started in 1975 as autonomous groups within the Wages for Housework Campaign.
Come and hear why and how we began, campaigns, victories and obstacles along the way, and how this history can help inform and strengthen our movements today.
Programme includes: speakers, film shows, Q&A and a chance to look at the archives from the three organisations.
Speakers:
Women of Colour Global Women’s Strike
(formerly Black Women for Wages for Housework) A network of African, Asian, Caribbean, Latina and Indigenous women campaigning against sexism, racism, poverty, war and deportation; for Haiti and Palestine; and for a care income for every gender and generation who care for people and the natural world.
English Collective of Prostitutes
A network of sex workers working both on the streets and indoors campaigning for decriminalisation and safety, and against the poverty of women and children. Sister organisations are Empower (Thailand), Street Workers Collective (Ireland) and US PROStitutes Collective (USA).
Queer Strike.
(formerly Wages Due Lesbians) A multi-racial lgbtq+ women’s group campaigning for economic, legal and human rights, and to end women’s poverty so that we can all afford to make the life choices we want, including sexual choices. Sister group in San Francisco.
